In this Friday Forum we will be having a future thinking conversation with Rebekah Matheny. Rebekah recently completed a "Design Futures" course at the Institute for the Future after receiving the Enrich Fund Grant. She will be leading attendees through a discussion around a meaningful interiors design topic using tools learned in the course. "Design Futures is a course that teaches you how to create interactions with "the future," learn from those interactions, and apply those learnings to your life and work. Through a unique curriculum that builds on the deep experience from award-winning design futurists, you will learn to analyze possible futures, build worlds and scenes from those futures, and populate those scenes with compelling artifacts and media. The course culminates with the design of projects and programs that integrate your new knowledge and skills into actionable outcomes." Rebekah Matheny is an Associate Professor of Design at The Ohio State University. Her teaching and research focus on changing human behaviors through the design of physical places to cultivate a sustainable future.

Danielle Woodhouse Johnson will speak on her experience working with the public, what makes a successful project, and how the design community can get more involved. Danielle Woodhouse Johnson is the founder of The Oasis Alliance, an organization that brightens the lives of trauma survivors by co-designing personalized spaces that encourage and support recovery, growth, and wellbeing. The Oasis Alliance believes that interior design is an underutilized tool to empower, encourage and resurrect people at their lowest point. By engaging in a collaborative design process with their clients, the Oasis team aims to help trauma survivors reclaim their sense of self and feelings of agency, enabling them to take a first step in moving through trauma and loss.

Our chapter is thrilled to bring to you this year a multi-state Interior Design Awards event to recognize the outstanding work and achievements of the many architecture and design firms, students, and manufacturers representatives within our design communities. IIDA Ohio Kentucky has striven for a greater connection and collaboration across our five city centers for the past several years and we finally are bringing forth an event that will gather all our exemplary volunteers and design communities together for an evening of celebration.
