Legislation
National Issues:
IIDA firmly believes that legal recognition, achieved through licensing,
registration, and certification brings uniformity to the profession, defines
responsibility, and encourages excellence in the interior design industry.
Licensure, registration and certification assists the profession in establishing
and maintaining standards to protect the health, safety and welfare of
the general public. To find out more about how IIDA is affecting legislation
go to:

Member Appellations:
Understanding the value of education and research has been the mainstay
of IIDA since its inception. Educated Members make informed, safe, and
creative decisions. The IIDA appellation after a Member's name means that
they have met all of IIDA's high requirements for membership.
Purpose: To establish the correct use of the appellation by members.
Intent: To ensure proper representation and application of IIDA
member appellation.
To learn more about the correct usage of the appellation, please go to:
http://www.iida.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=388
If you know of someone misusing the appellation, please contact the
Chapter President, Stephanie McCrery to report the incident so that the
situation can be corrected.
Kentucky:
The Kentucky Interior Designer Legislation Organization(KIDLO) successfully
helped in passing legislation in 2002 creating a Title Act to recognize
Interior Designers who have successfully passed the NCIDQ test and allow
them to be recognized as Certified Interior Designers in the State of
Kentucky. As a Certified Interior Designer in Kentucky, designers are
required to maintain continuing education equivalent to 12 hours per year
to maintain and renew their certification. For more information about
becoming a Certified Interior Designer in Kentucky, contact the Kentucky
State Board of Examiners & Registration of Architects at 301 East
Main Street, Suite 860 Lexington, KY 40507, Phone: (859) 246-2069, Fax:
(859) 246-2431.
Ohio:
The Coalition of Interior Designers for Legislation in Ohio (CIDLO) has
been working hard to pass a Title Act in Ohio. It is now time for Interior
Designers in Ohio to stand up for their profession by supporting CIDLO
and writing your local state representatives. For more information and
to become a member of CIDLO, go to the CIDLO website at www.cidlo.org
