DESIGN FOR A CAUSE

We are thrilled to invite designers—both individuals and teams—to showcase their creativity through one-of-a-kind Derby hats and fascinators at our gala-style celebration supporting IIDA advocacy in Ohio and Kentucky. Here’s everything you need to know to participate:

 

Who Can Submit

• Open to individuals or teams.

• Designers, members, partners, and supporters are all welcome to contribute.

 

What We’re Looking For

• Any Derby-style hat or fascinator—classic, whimsical, avant-garde, or anywhere in between.

• A unique interpretation is encouraged—put your personal spin on your design!

• Creativity is key—bold ideas, unexpected materials, and imaginative designs are celebrated.

• Designs must be wearable, as each submission will be modeled during the event.

 

Submission Details

• Cost: The submission cost is FREE! You just need to register under tickets and hat submissions. 

• Number of Submissions: One design per individual or team.

• Value: There is no limit on the value—focus on creativity, craftsmanship, and originality. Individuals and teams are responsible for providing their own materials.

• Modeling Requirement: Each hat/fascinator must have a model to showcase it at the event. Models can be members of your team, friends, colleagues, or professional models.

 

Event Showcase

• All accepted submissions will be featured during the event’s cocktail hour and auction.

• This is a unique opportunity for exposure, connecting with fellow designers, supporters, and event guests while supporting IIDA advocacy efforts.

• Bidding will follow standard auction increments set by the event host.

• All hats become property of the winning bidder at the close of the auction.

 

Important Notes

• Submissions will be part of a charity auction, helping to fund IIDA advocacy initiatives across Ohio and Kentucky.

• Designers are encouraged to think beyond traditional forms—bold, fun, and innovative designs are highly encouraged.

• Hats and fascinators should be ready to wear and transport safely to the event venue.

 

How to Submit

• Submissions are required on the day of the event, March 26th, at the venue by 4:00 PM, or can be coordinated for earlier delivery if needed. Reach out to Heather at loulex.iida.louisvilleevents@gmail.com.

• Make sure your submission is complete and ready for display, including your designated model.

• Please include a title and short description of your piece for the auction display, either via email beforehand or on a notecard.

Pro Tip: Think outside the brim! Sequins, feathers, flowers, unusual textures, or interactive elements can make your submission truly unforgettable.
