All-In Advocacy: 2021 Recap!

All-In Advocacy was an inaugural event for the IIDA Cincinnati/Dayton City Center! In September 2020, our Advocacy committee introduced an Advocacy Week Campaign which took place over our social media outlets. Peers could nominate any IIDA member who they felt embodied the true meaning of an advocate. It was such a success, that IIDA HQ even highlighted the event in an interview that you could read here!

In addition to the social media campaign, our committee wanted to do something even bigger for 2021. With in-person events becoming the norm again and with many of our members feeling some burnout from all of their hard work throughout the past year, we wanted to celebrate and inspire our community. Similar to a TED Talk series, our committee put together an amazing lineup of speakers that covered all grounds of advocacy for our industry. The event took place over a plated lunch at University Club of Cincinnati, where over 60 attendees joined for an afternoon of networking and thought-provoking lectures. Here is our lineup of speakers and their respective topics:

  • Melissa Lutz, Principal, FSMPS, CPSM at Champlin Architecture: Developing Yourself to be Your Best Advocate.

  • Joe Nickol, Director of Design and Development at Yard & Company: Design Advocacy for Neighborhoods.

  • Shane Meeker, Founder of StoryMythos: The Better Business of Storytelling.

Feel free to reach out to iida.cindaydirector@gmail.com if you're interested in learning more about our speakers.

We cannot thank our attendees, sponsors, and benefactors enough for their patience and cooperation as we worked through the hiccups of planning! We are looking forward to hosting this event for our members again, and would love to hear any feedback or suggestions. Please send any additional thoughts to iida.cindayadvocacy@gmail.com and we will make sure to carry them with us in to 2022!

We also cannot thank our IIDA Cincinnati/Dayton planning committee enough for their hard work: Robyn Davis (Co-Director), Stacy Jo Frank (Co-Student Relations Coordinator), Emilie Hart (Graphics Coordinator), Heather Hemmer (Membership Coordinator), Bonny Rienecke (Special Events Coordinator), and Kate Sharp (Co-Special Events Coordinator). It was a great team effort for such a great event!

Looking forward to the next installment of All-In Advocacy... stay tuned!
