IIDA Columbus: Camp Architecture + Design

What an amazing summer we had teaching students about Interior Design at
Camp Architecture + Design!
IIDA’s Columbus City Center continued its partnership with the Center for Architecture and Design this summer teaching students in 3rd-8th grade about the profession of Interior Design. We love being part of this program each summer and this year it ran for 8 weeks! We had the opportunity to teach a different set of students each week and explore all of the different ways that interior design impacts the built environment.
This year the theme was The Future of Learning Environments. We challenged the kids to think about different spaces that they learn in and what aspects of these spaces make it easy or difficult to focus. We explored different design considerations and elements that can impact how well a space supports the activities in it. By learning about materials and design strategies related to sound, pattern, shape, scale, color, and accessibility the students started to think about what their ideal learning space would look like.
Material Boards are always a favorite activity to explore ideas before jumping into a model. We love seeing all of the creative concepts and ideas that the kids have. Thank you to the Center for Architecture + Design for allowing us to be part of this awesome summer program!
