RECAP: Cin/Day Design IQ

The IIDA Cincinnati - Dayton City Center gathered last night for Design IQ: a CEU and Roundtable event. The evening was hosted by Kimball International as they presented their sensory engaging CEU, Multisensory Wellbeing - Biohacking Creativity. Kaelynn Reid, Design Futurist with Kimball explored how we can design with focus on all 5 senses to create experiential spaces that allow people to enhance their emotional and physical wellbeing. We learned ways to balance sensory activators through out a space allowing occupants to naturally gravitate to locations that fill their sensory needs. Kaelynn also had exercises that we can implement to help boost our creativity when working on these projects, from squeezing a soft ball to mushroom based drinks.

The CEU was followed by a round table discussion moderated by Michelle Boolton, VP, A&D; VP, IIDA Board; President Elect IIDA Foundation from Kimball. Michelle lead us through a conversation where we were able to unpack and build on all the information we just learned from Kaelynn. Being able to talk through challenges we all face in planning out environments and different ideas or solutions others have put in place to solve them. There was also brainstorming on ways we could take this new knowledge and implement it to enhance the experience in a space; How can we incorporate basic scents into healthcare settings, How can light be adjusted throughout a space in more natural rhythms, How do we incorporate more taste experiences in an office setting? Great discussions that left everyone leaving excited with new ideas!

We want to thank our hosts for the event GBBN and Kimball International, our planning committee and all the local members who were able to attend.
