February 24th, 2026 | Kentucky Capitol Annex | 700 Capital Ave, Frankfort, KY 40601
During Capital Day 2026, members of AIA Kentucky and the IIDA Ohio Kentucky Chapter convened at the Kentucky Capitol Annex in Frankfort for a dynamic and impactful day of advocacy.
Architects and interior designers from across the Ohio–Kentucky (OHKY) region came together with a shared mission: to champion the future of their professions and to strengthen the standards that protect the communities they serve. Meeting directly with legislators, design professionals engaged in meaningful conversations about proposed legislation and the vital role their work plays in shaping safe, functional, and resilient environments.
A central message resonated throughout the day: professional licensure for architects and certification for interior designers are not merely credentials — they are critical safeguards that uphold public health, safety, and welfare.
Capital Day was defined by collaboration, thoughtful dialogue, and a collective commitment to protecting the integrity of architecture and interior design. It served as a powerful reminder that advocacy is not separate from practice — it is an essential extension of it. By showing up, speaking out, and sharing their expertise, design professionals are actively shaping policy and influencing the future of the OHKY region.
The day underscored one essential truth: when design professionals unite with purpose, they do more than influence legislation — they help build a stronger, more resilient future for the entire design community.
A heartfelt thank you to Stephanie McCrery and Kelly Ives for generously sharing photos and helping us capture the impact of this meaningful day.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to the legislators who took the time to meet with architects and interior designers, engaging in insightful discussions about the policies shaping the future of our industry.
